Hi friends! Today we will discuss about the Total Quality management & Its 8 principles.TQM can be defined as THE ART OF MANAGING AN ORGANISTION IN SUCH A MANNER THAT IT EXCELLENCES IN ALL THE AREAS OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE CUSTOMERS.

  • Perfect and careful designing of the product or service
  • Ensuring that the selected design can be consistently produced by the organisation

History

TQM concept actually originated in the US in 1980s when it faced tough competition from other countries produced manufacturing automobiles and other durable goods when it was found that the best-quality American products had higher average defect rates than those of the poorest country manufacturers which became a national concern in the US. From here evolved the concept of TQM with the Department of commerce establishing the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1987 with a motive of improving this quality issue.

1.Customer focused : Whatever an organization does to improve the quality of its products, starting from imparting training sessions to its employees to process designing to upgrading of software like CAD, Catia, all its efforts depends on customer satisfaction and decision.

2.Total employee involvement : Full employee involvement and commitment is required for achievement of common goals which can be achieved only when the employees are given freedom to work without fear and provided by proper environment with all the facilities by the management so that they can give their optimum productivity.

3.Process centered: The most fundamental part of TQM is on process thinking. The methods of carrying out a process is mostly defined and the performance measures are kept monitored to detect the unexpected variations.

4. Integrated system: TQM mainly focusses on interconnection of the horizontal processes with the vertical structured department. An integrated system connects business improvement elements in an attempt continually improve and exceed the expectations of stakeholders.

5.Strategic and systematic approach: Quality can be termed as the core component of any organisation which is essential for achievement of its mission and business goals for which a strategic and systematic approach is required for quality management.

6.Continual improvement – Continual improvement drives an organization to be both analytical and creative in finding ways to become more competitive and more effective at meeting stakeholder expectations.

7.Fact based Decision making: TQM includes Continuous performance measurement to evaluate how well an organization is performing. The data so collected is analyzed to make predictions based on past history to improve decision making accuracy and achieve consensus

8.Communication: Effective Communications actually involves strategies, methods and timeliness in day to day operations for motivating the employees and maintaining the morale high.
